The Corrosion and Materials Team for oil and gas developments and water and gas injection systems forms one of Viking’s core oil and gas engineering services.
The aim of the GATE Commissioning team is to ensure the equipment is commissioned in a safe and controlled manner while confirming compliance with the design intent and demonstrating system and equipment performance.
Project Experiences
GATE Energy was engaged to execute FEL 2A (Select Phase) for a first-of-its-kind mobile modular ammonia demonstration unit designed to produce 5 metric tons per day (TPD). The unit was required to be fully containerized within two standard 40-foot ISO shipping containers and transportable across multiple European sites, operating approximately six months per location before relocation.
Led study for independent oil and gas operator regarding the injection of flue gases from Gulf coast power plants to a Deepwater development for the purposes of enhanced oil recovery (EOR). This considered pretreatment and processing requirements for flue gases from natural gas-fired boiler plants, natural gas combined cycle plants, coal-fired boiler plants and integrated gasification combined cycle plants. Key issues considered were the ability of the pretreatment system to remove oxygen and water.

In this article, we look at the integrated CM-Cx service model alternative—where both functions are managed by a single entity with a unified team and goal—designed to maximize project value, minimize risk, and enhance execution efficiency.
Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) is a systems approach to hazard analysis. It is based on the premise that accidents happen when we lose control. They are a control problem, not a failure problem.
The GATE approach to risk ranking makes risk assessment easier, more accurate and more repeatable by incorporating LOPA insights into the risk matrix approach.
