8” Segment eelReel® Remediation

Total Depth of 7,067’ Cleaned Through Varying IDs

A Gulf of America operator experienced a blockage in a flowline which they suspected to be caused by recent pigging of the line. The blockage needed to be cleared before production could resume.

Location

Gulf of America

Scope of Work

Use CT spread, fluid handling equipment, and eelReel® to cleanout suspected blockage.

Specifications

8.625”, 0.438” WT, 36,078’ Flowline. 1.75” x 8,240’ CT String

Challenges

  • Running through varying IDs in the configuration of the flowline presented challenges.

  • Using a treating chemical never utilized on an eelReel® project presented challenges.

Plan of Execution

A methodical approach was needed to clear the flowline:

  1. The CT spread was mobilized along with fluid handling equipment.

  2. The eelReel® was then installed and deployed to clear the blockage.

Technical Achievements & Benefits

  • The eelReel® was successfully deployed for a total of 5.5 days in line. The flowline was cleaned to a depth of about 7,067 feet which cleared the suspected blockage.

  • Successfully overcame foaming of treatment chemical and effectiveness.

  • Successfully traversed through varying line ID’s because of diligent pre-job testing used to evaluate feasibility.

  • PL pressure at receiving platform increased from 40 PSI to 100 PSI during remediation.

  • Removed 336 bbls of solids from line, which was 57% of line capacity at depth.
