GATE provides technical consulting and field services to implement tailor made integrity management programs for your business needs.

Our Services

Our Goal: Maximized Uptime, Predictable Performance & Safe Operations

A Systems-based Service Line from Well to Refinery

From upstream to downstream, GATE Energy provides a centralized engineering and field operations to safely design, operate and maintain a facility at its maximum value and capacity, while ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies.

GATE's proactive IM approach provides well-defined and cost-effective pathways and solutions to maintain the integrity by combining the engineering studies such as modeling, risk identification, planning and management, and field techniques for inspection, maintenance and surveillance, process efficiency and optimization, and rehabilition operations.

We understand that effective decisions are not made in silos! Our corrosion and integrity experts leverage the experience of process engineers, production chemists, flow assurance specialists, and production and completions engineers to make recommendations you can use!

Root Cause Analysis

Viking Engineering provides effective and timely root cause analysis, treating the syndrome and not the symptoms. This approach has been applied to numerous cases, and Viking’s contribution is recognized by our Clients as the strategic solution provider that is in alignment with their best interests. Our multi-disciplinary engineering team and field personnel goes above and beyond to support the implementation of the solution, and also to identify and close the gaps in the integrity management program so as to prevent now foreseeable risks to your asset.

Viking follows a similar methodology to threat identification in risk assessment (e.g. FMEA), and analyses the relations between possible causes, and prevention and maintenance measures to highlight the cause(s) to be addressed. Descriptive reports with cause and effect diagrams, fishbone relation charts are provided for the presenting the complex problem and relations to the possible causes, along with the unbiased perspective.

Viking Engineering can work with you to identify the principle causes to an ongoing issue or one-time event, provide objective analyses and corrective actions, and to ensure the relevant changes are applied to the management plans and procedures to prevent future similar events.

Risk Based Inspection (RBI) & Assessment

Viking provides risk based assessment and inspection services for its clients on various stages of the project by pursuing a systems engineering approach to the problem. This includes the development and oversight of risk‐based inspection (RBI) programs and the detailed selection of appropriate condition monitoring points and surveillance locations.

  • Risk-Based Assessment and Inspection Planning Troubleshooting Corrosion Problems on Operating Facilities

  • Pigging Solutions for Deepwater Production Flowlines and Risers Peer Review of System-Wide Materials Selections

Risk Based Inspection (RBI)

Although Viking is familiar with the API approach to RBI, we have developed a streamlined in‐house methodology that enables RBI programs to be developed in a much shorter timeframe with a documentation process that is fully auditable and traceable in the same way as the API approach. Viking can help you design and implement a tailor-made Risk Based Inspection (RBI) Program.

A well-designed RBI program provides more than just optimized inspection scheduling – it can lead the way to effective corrosion management and cost savings. Assessments made during RBI workshops can inform operational activities and improve system performance and equipment longevity.

Barriers to integrity threats are either “design-out” or “operational”. A design-out barrier is intrinsic to the system and can usually fully mitigate the threat. An operational barrier is a variable condition that needs to be actively managed to work, i.e. to mitigate risk. Some degradation mechanisms may have no barrier at all, in which case risk management relies entirely on inspection and replacement.

An RBI program that facilitates proper monitoring of conditions and reliable management of operational barriers can boost your bottom line.

Viking’s RBI Services can be tailored to provide a wide range of services, including:

  • Damage Assessment and Corrosion Modeling

  • Corrosion Loop / Circuits Identification

  • CML (Condition Monitoring Location) Placement and Use

  • Fitness for Service Assessment / Life Extension

  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA)

  • Determination of Inspection Intervals and Schedules

  • Corrosion Management Manual Development and Implementation

  • Risk Assessment Matrix (RAM) Development for Equipment Reliability

  • Probability of Failure (POF) and Consequence of Failure (COF) Characterization

  • ALARP Risk Reduction Strategies

Together, we’ll inspect your facility for maximum value.

Integrity Management Plan Development

One of the key aspects of integrity management of any asset is having a plan that identifies not only the asset-specified technical requirements with actions and management methods clearly stated, but also defines roles and responsibilities for all stakeholders involved, and allows for continuous improvement based on documented evidence and regulatory compliance.

Having been involved in numerous design-to-operate project work, active duty on operating facilities, field and engineering services for troubleshooting nonconformance and process/equipment modifications, and with up to date knowledge on regulatory compliances, Viking can improvise, implement and manage a cost-effective plan for your asset to ensure safe and continuous operation.

Integrity Engineering Consulting

Integrity engineering consulting starts at design stage where the corrosion control strategy is laid-out to reach the desired service life with minimum interruption.

Multiple considerations for materials selection, corrosion management, chemical consumption, process conditions, and monitoring and surveillance activities should be balanced to identify the most cost-effective and safe operation. Viking’s corrosion and materials engineers excel and provide the following services for your assets to reach the project goals.

  • Materials Selection & Corrosion Engineering

  • Corrosion & Erosion Modeling

  • Sour Service Compliance

  • Corrosion Monitoring and Management Plan

  • Process Performance Evaluation and Troubleshooting

  • Production Chemical Management

  • Cathodic Protection Design

Life Extension & Fitness for Service

Life Extension Studies

What risk based inspection is used for depends on what the intent is. When RBI is applied to operating design life, it can be used for life extension of equipment of an entire facility or a single vessel.

Life extension is a comprehensive review of a facility or vessel to determine if improvements are required, and what is needed to extend the operational life. When done at the facility level, multiple aspects from structural and electrical, to materials and rotating equipment, as well as other aspects are evaluated. Criteria can be set for potential different or similar reservoir fluids and operations, or other needs as required. Risk assessments are coupled with cost estimate to assist with the project decision whether to go forward or not with the life extension or only part of it.

Fitness-For-Service Assessment

Fitness for service is designed to evaluate a facility or vessel for use in its current state. Process changes can lead to unexpected corrosion or operating limits being exceeded. When this happens, vessels need to be evaluated to confirm that they are still fit for service. By looking at the materials of construction, operating history, current conditions/fluids, then evaluating risk/consequence/probability, Viking can help evaluate if vessels can be used safely.
